Wednesday 12 October saw the official opening of the new 1,200 m² warehouse space and the new packaging facility (Line 35) in Mâcon. More than 100 people attended this event, including Jörg Ortmeier. As well as an invitation to all the French and some Belgian staff, local suppliers, selected representatives of the local authority and collaborating companies also attended the event. Guests who had never visited the site before were offered the chance to take a closer look at the production plant, which was met with great interest.
Denis Ponsonnet, Plant Manager TWE Crépy/TWE Mâcon, gave a short speech in which he thanked everyone involved in making this project a success. This investment is in fact the result of the TWE Group's increasing investment policy, enabling TWE Mâcon to increase capacity and performance by operating 7-day production in good circumstances. The combination of a growing market (for Protect-It in particular) and the site's organisational possibilities allow these new resources to be used optimally.
Establishment of the warehouse and the new facility was long overdue. On the one hand the lack of warehouse space had been an increasingly big issue for some time, making product storage conditions and the flow of materials very difficult in Mâcon. Fortunately, the site had land available right next to the main building, allowing the construction of a warehouse measuring 60 m x 20 m. The facilities opened on time; partly due to the full commitment of everyone involved, including the planning departments at Mâcon local authority.
The commissioning of this new buildings will optimise the flow of raw materials and semi-manufactured products, and also provide sufficient space to open a second packaging line. TWE Mâcon is particularly associated with supplying products for end users which are increasingly in demand in the Building & Construction sector.
To meet increasing customer demand with respect to volume and variety, the acquisition of Line 35 has tripled capacity, with the advantage that production processes no longer need to be outsourced unnecessarily. This machine was installed by the Italian company TESTA, which had to make several journeys to optimise the machine's cycle times and performance. This equipment is able to process jumbo rolls with a width of 2 m - in two rolls measuring 1 m each - in lengths of 10 m to 50 m. The machine introduces new technologies such as, for example, connecting multiple rolls using ultrasonic welding. These investments will now enable TWE Mâcon to exploit the majority of its opportunities, and fortunately future expansion is possible to further increase output and assure good performance.
