The Science Based Targets initiative is a global body that enables companies to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. The focus is on encouraging companies around the world to halve their emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

This initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is part of the “We Mean Business Coalition” commitments. It defines and promotes best practices in setting science-based targets, provides guidance and support to overcome implementation challenges, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.

The latest climate science findings from the IPCC – described by the United Nations as a “Code Red for humanity” – show that it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, but we are dangerously close to this threshold. Urgent action is therefore needed!

To help achieve this, the TWE Group has committed to near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. The following targets have been approved by the SBTi:

• The TWE Group commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 35% by 2035 (from a 2021 base year).

• The TWE Group commits to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions by 28% per ton of nonwoven production by 2035 (from a 2021 base year).
