TWE Group set its near-term science-based emissions reduction targets in December 2022 in line with the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

The Science Based Targets Initiative is a global body that enables companies to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. The focus is on companies around the world halving their emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

This initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. It defines and promotes best practices in setting science-based targets, provides support and assistance in resolving implementation issues, and independently evaluates and approves corporate targets.

The latest climate science findings from the IPCC - described by the United Nations as a "red alert for humanity" - show that it is still possible to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C, but that we are dangerously close to this threshold. Therefore, it is urgent time to act!

To achieve this, the TWE Group has committed to near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. The following targets have been approved by the SBTi:

  • TWE Group commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 35% by 2035 (from a 2021 baseline)
  • TWE Group commits to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions by 28% per ton of nonwoven production by 2035 (from a base year of 2021)
